Season underway for men’s baseball team

The Cranbrook Sox Senior Baseball Team took on the Vernon Diamondbacks over the weekend at Butler Park in Trail.

The Cranbrook Sox Senior Baseball Team sponsored by Sussex Insurance took on the Vernon Diamondbacks over the weekend at Butler Park in Trail.

The two teams played three games, with Cranbrook winning the opener in a come from behind exciting finish.

Jaymee Kitchenham picked up the win in the opener, going the distance while striking out 12 batters along the way.

Vernon took the second game after a late rally by Cranbrook fell short. The rally was sparked by a towering three-run homer over the left field fence of Butler Park by Jordan Armstrong.

The split set up a decisive rubber match.

The final game was close with many exciting defensive plays by both sides including a huge assist by centre fielder Sheldon Jurisic, who gunned down the Vernon player going to third.

After the hard fought tilt Cranbrook prevailed 4 - 1 to take the three game set two games to one. Josh Lowden pitched the complete game in a dominating performance, allowing just one unearned run.

The Sussex Insurance Cranbrook Sox are playing in their second season in the BC Senior Baseball League and will be representing Cranbrook in the BC Provincial tournament this year, which will be held in Trail's Butler Park from August 1st to the 4th.

The team is thankful to have the support from Sussex Insurance who are providing generous sponsorship to enable the Sox to represent Cranbrook at the provincial level.
