A monster bike ride helped propel Clint Dalziel over the finish line in first place, at this weekend’s Wasa Triathlon.
The Cochrane, Alberta, triathlete’s time of 55:41 in the bicycle leg of the Standard triathlon Sunday, June 11, pulled him into first place, and helped him finish in that position with an overall time of 2:03.29.
Over the course of the weekend, Wasa hosted the Trikids triathlon, Standard Triathlon, Sprint Triathlon, Super Sprint Triathlon, Standard Team, Aquabike (a 1,500-metre swim and 40km bike ride), and the Wasa Warrior Challenge (Age 18+) — which includes both the Sprint and Standard Triathlon distances.
Both the 2023 Standard Triathlon and Standard Aquabike were World AG 2024 Championship qualifiers.
Bright sunny skies and balmy temperatures greeted the racers, organizers and spectators on Sunday, the final day of the Warriors, Teams, Aquabike, and Standard distance Triathlon.
Dalziel crossed the finish line first in Sunday’s Standard (based on the Olympic ‘Standard Distance), with an overall time of 2:03.29 — 25:32 in the swim leg,1:37 in the first transition, 55:41 on the bike, 44 seconds in the second transition, and 39:57 for the run.
Coming in second was Mike Greenberg at 2:08:57 (23:26, 1:33, 1:02:26, 55 and 40:40).
Juan Jaramillo was in third place, with a time of 2:10:38 (26:36, 2:18, 1:01:53, 1:18, and 38:35).
Emma Skaug was the first place female (ninth overall in the Standard), at 2:13:39 (23:24, 1:36, 1:02:45, 0:45, and 45:12)
Sharon Styles, 10th overall, was second place female, at 2:15:25 (25:38, 1:46, 1:03:37, 0:56, 43:31).
The winner of Saturday’s Wasa Lake Trip-Kids was Luc Austin, with Luke Coetzee in second, and Kale Higginson in third).
