Nitros struggle on the road

Dynamiters drop a pair of games in 100 Mile House and Kamloops in weekend KIJHL action.

The Kimberley Dynamiters suffered a pair of losses on the road this weekend, losing to 100 Mile House and Kamloops in a brief two-game road trip.

The Nitros still hold a tenuous one-point lead on the Fernie Ghostriders for second place in the Eddie Mountain division, while Creston is on top by a nine-point spread.

It was a close game in 100 Mile House as the Wranglers edged out a 4-3 win against the Dynamiters on home ice.

Kimberley goaltender Jermey Mousseau made 29 saves in defeat while his team put 30 shots on Wranglers netminder Kristian Stead.

Kimberley found themselves in a 2-1 deficit after the first period, and couldn’t make it up over the following 40 minutes.

The Wranglers opened the scoring off an effort from Jayden Syrota before Jason Richter tied it up for the Nitros a few dozen seconds later. However, 100 Mile House jumped ahead to the lead on a powerplay goal from Luke Santemo with just over six minutes left in the frame to take the lead.

Both teams traded goals in the second and third period, but Kimberley couldn’t come back after getting in that one-goal hole in the opening period.

Roberty Orrey scored a quick goal in the second period, but  Jared Marchi answered back for Kimberley.

Syrota posted the final goal for the Wranglers at the halfway mark, putting Kimberley down by two for the final 10 minutes of the game.

Tyson Klingspohn managed to score a buzzer-beater with a second remaining on the clock, but that would be it for the game.

Kimberley was shut out in four chances on the powerplay, while 100 Mile House capitalized once in the same amount of opportunities with the man-advantage.

On Saturday, the Nitros headed into Kamloops to face one of the top teams in the KIJHL, but the Storm came up with the 3-1 win.

Despite the loss, Nitro goaltender Tyson Brouwer faced a shooting gallery, turning away 52 shots, while Kimberley only got 24 pucks on net.

Max James opened the scoring in the first period, and the Storm doubled up in the second frame off of goals from Josh Rasmussen and Felix Larouche—a shorthanded effort.

Matt Barzilay answered back for Kimberley early in the third period, but that would be it for the scoring.

Kimberley was denied on all three powerplay chances, and killed the Storm’s lone opportunity with the man-advantage.

Kimberley hosts the Columbia Valley Rockies for a Tuesday evening game at the Civic Centre.
