The Mount Baker Secondary Senior Boys soccer team in action during their home tournament on October 13-14

For the Townsman

The Senior Girls volleyball team had a very successful weekend winning their pool  at the Best of the West Tournament in Kelowna, defeating top-ranked Kelowna Secondary, Cochrane, and Holy Trinity. The next day they won their quarterfinal match before losing in the semi-final to Pacific Academy.

The girls have now had their ranking move up from ninth to fifth in this week’s provincial rankings.

At the same tournament, the Senior Boys played well in their round robin, beating teams from Invermere and Surrey a close third game to a team from Edmonton, losing the third set by only 2 points.  They moved on to the 4th game of the day late on Friday night where they lost a back-and-forth game to a team from the coast.  The two losses were significant in that they placed the team in a much easier pool than they had hoped to be in.  They played two games on Saturday, winning both easily in two sets.  Being that this is only their second tournament with the entire team the boys played well together. Mount Baker is hopeful that the next month and a half will tighten up our game and allow us to compete with some of the higher-level teams at provincials.

Senior Boys’ soccer team had a great weekend at their home tournament and beat Yorkton, SK 2-0, Nakusp 4-0, Golden 3-0 then went on to a tie game with a shootout, losing to Invermere 3-2

The Junior Boys volleyball team were undefeated and won first place in the Jaffray tournament.

Meanwhile, the junior girls fought hard and lost in the semi-finals coming in third overall.
