Minor lacrosse season ends with home tournament

Outlaw lacrosse teams taking over Western Financial Place and Memorial Arena this weekend.

The Cranbrook Minor Lacrosse Association is wrapping up their season with the Chris Watson Memorial Tournament at the Memorial Arena and Western Financial Place this weekend.

Lacrosse action will take over both facilities as 16 teams over varying age divisions from around B.C. and Alberta go head to head.

Games begin at 11 a.m on Friday in both facilities, running right through on Saturday, and wrapping up with playoffs on Sunday.

There will be a break in the event on Saturday at 3 p.m. in the afternoon, as all teams gather on the floor at Western Financial Place for a ceremony honouring Chris Watson.

“We do a little ceremony, we award the Chris Watson Fair Play award,” said Outlaws president Tammy Tait. “Each team selects someone who shows all the good attributes of a good sportsman.”

After the ceremony, kids will put their individual skills to the test in a trick stick competition before getting back into games.

The Outlaws are also hosting a public pancake breakfast by donation on Saturday morning from 7-10 a.m. at the upstairs viewing area in the Memorial Arena.

There are plenty of spoils up for grabs in raffle prizes, with some gift baskets exceeding $700 in value and a chance to win an iPad mini.
