The Mount Baker Secondary School Wild senior volleyball teams kicked off their seasons over the weekend and picked up some hardware.

The girls and boys teams travelled to Lethbridge, Alberta to play in a tournament and both teams were very successful with the girls placing second and the boys coming in first.

Dawson Atwood was the tournament MVP for the boys and their journey included several nailbiters.

The team beat Fernie Academy in two sets (25-20 and 25-5) advancing to play Bow Island’s Senator Gershaw School, who they beat in a comeback 2-1 victory (23-25, 25-20, 15-8).

In the finals against Lethbridge’s Catholic Central High School, the Wild once again lost the first set (25-17) but then clawed back with a 25-23 win and a 16-14 third set victory.

Next weekend, the boys have an opportunity to rest while the girls travel to the University of Calgary Dinos’ tournament on Friday.
