The Kootenay Ice have called up 16-year-old defenceman Bobby Russell from the Valley West Hawks of the BC Hockey Major Midget League to play for the team in their upcoming road games starting in Everett tonight.
Russell, a 6'0 Surrey, BC product, has 13 points in 16 games so far this season in the BCMML from the back end. He was taken by the Ice in the sixth round in 2015, was 123rd overall and has made his WHL debut in the home opener on September 24.
Russell has been called up to the Ice to fill a hole created by an injury to Russian defenceman Nikita Radzivilyuk who is out indefinitely with an upper body injury.
The Ice play the Silvertips tonight, the Seattle Thunderbirds on Friday and the Portland Winterhawks on Saturday.
