Cranbrook Eagles roll with the punches at Provincials

Three members of the Cranbrook Eagles Boxing Club participated in the BC Provincial Boxing Championship.

For the Townsman

Three members of the Cranbrook Eagles Boxing Club participated in the BC Provincial Boxing Championship, which was held on October 28 and 29 in Abbotsford, BC.

11-year-old Sierra Pearson fought in the 34 kg Novice Female Division and took on Jill Doucet from Sooke BC.

These two had met previously last May in Quesnel BC. It turned out to be a hard fought and entertaining rematch. Both girls were awarded trophies for their performances.

10-year-old 42kg Initiation boxer Dylan Muhlig was up next and he made short work of William Killsby from Maple Ridge. The referee stopped the action midway through the 3rd round after Muhlig used several counter right hands.

Dylan stepped into the ring once more for the finals and unanimously outboxed Preston Riley from Lillooet. Muhlig again had his opponent in trouble in the second round when the referee gave Riley a standing eight count.

14-year-old Kaden Swanson competed in the 63 kg division for the Eagles and came out swinging against his opponent Aarman Dhillon from Maple Ridge. Swanson dominated the match from the opening bell.

Kaden then took on uncontested Domonic Barbosa from Salmon Arm. This match was an exhibition bout due to Barbosa’s fight experience.

Uncontested Payton Muhlig went matchless through the weekend as his scheduled opponent from Quesnel was a no-show.

All four local boxers plus Aidan Gareau, Alexa Hansen, and Nike Blackmore will share the spotlight this Sat. Nov.5 at the 4th Annual Charity Challenge Boxing Event.
