Local basketball player Bobbi-Jo Colburn is hitting the national stage again, as she has been invited to an assessment camp in Toronto that is gathering talent for a Canadian cadette team.
Colburn, who plays high school basketball with Mount Baker Secondary and with the 3G club team, is one of the youngest players invited to in an exclusive class of roughly 30 other players.
The camp is an initiative by Canada Basketball to provide training for top identified athletes, conduct fitness testing to help athletes tweak their regimen back home and evaluate progress made by previously identified athletes to provide feedback.
For her part, Colburn had no idea that she was in consideration by Canada Basketball.
"It was really shocking, I didn't know it was going to happen," Colburn said.
She will head to the camp in mid-December, which could lead to another camp in the spring—depending on her performance—for a spot on the 2014 Cadette Women's National Team (CWNT).
"After the camp is over, they will tell me what I need to work on, and if I make it into another tryout, then that will be the cadette's team," said Colburn.
"This is just an assessment camp and they'll tell me what I need to work on and improve."
Though she has yet to attend, she knows that she needs to work on her strength, being one of the younger and smaller players on the court.
