BC Masters Curling championships underway in Cranbrook

Jim Hong, at 90 years young, threw the ceremonial rock, while two grandkids manned the brooms to sweep it down into the house as part of the opening ceremonies to the 2024 BC Masters Curling Championship at the Cranbrook Curling Centre on Wednesday, Feb. 20. The tournament, which will crown the top masters curlers in the province, will be underway throughout the weekend, until wrapping up with men’s and women’s finals on Sunday.

Top curling teams from around the province are in the thick of it at the BC Curling Masters, underway at the Cranbrook Curling Centre.

The event features seven men’s teams and two women’s teams (two from Cranbrook). The event is following a round-robin format, with semi-finals on Saturday evening and finals on Sunday.

As of Friday morning, Feb., 23, standings were as follows:

On the men’s side: Team Craig (four wins, no losses), Team C. Lepine (two wins, one loss), Team Wright ((two wins, one loss), Team Karbashewski (one win, two losses), Team L. Lepine (one win, two losses), Team van Yzerloo (one win, two losses), Team Ingram (three losses)

On the women’s side: Team Deputan (two wins, one loss), Team Erdos (two wins, one loss), Team Sanders (two wins, one loss), Team Shantz (two wins, one loss), Team Berry (one win two losses), Team Devlin (three losses)
