Perry “Pip” Stairs is being recognized for his exemplary service at Fort Steele Heritage Town with a bronze plaque which is now permanently mounted on 1077 locomotive. Pip was a welder, mechanic, and boiler-maker who was born on January 9, 1946 and passed away on August 10, 2013. He worked on most of the historic steam locomotives and antique boilers in B.C. and Fort Steele’s 1077 locomotive was the last steam engine that he repaired. In addition, he was recognized by Transport Canada as one of the very few individuals who was authorized to fix steam engines.
