Métis heritage honoured this week

The School District 5 Jiggers danced in front of a crowd at Rotary Park on Thursday

The School District 5 Jiggers performed dances in honour of Louis Riel and Métis week on Thursday afternoon at Rotary Park.

The dance was a part of the Métis Week Proclamation and Celebration.

Nov. 16 was Louis Riel Day and the Métis Flag will be flown all week at schools in Cranbrook, Sparwood, Fernie and Elkford, as well as the College of the Rockies.

Also taking part were in the ceremony: Kathryn Teneese, Ktunaxa Nation Chair; MP Wayne Stetski; Marlin Ratch, Rocky Mountain Métis Association president; Mayor Lee Pratt; Jason Tichauer from SD5; and Dave Hill, from Mount Baker Secondary.
