Organizers are aiming to throw the biggest Canada Day party Cranbrook has ever seen.

Both Kimberley and Cranbrook are gearing up for Canada Day celebrations tomorrow, July 1, with events going on in both communities.

In Cranbrook, there will be a dazzling line-up of entertainers, festivities, fireworks and food.  Organizers are saying that this year's fireworks display will be twice the size of last year's. So bring a lawn chair to enjoy the festivities.

Events will begin in Moir Park from 5 p.m. There will be two stages of music and acts, games for all ages and food vendors from all over the area. Fireworks are scheduled to start around 11 p.m.

Live performances will include Dewey, Chethem and Howe, RedGirl, the Connect Band and the Good Ol' Goats. Other acts and activities include Choco Pop the Clown, Glow Zumba, Aspire Dance, Retro Aerobics, bouncy castles, face painting, sports and games. Goodies will include mini donuts, shaved ice and other goodies available at the events.

Frank Hackett, leader of Connect Church and Canada Day event planner said the goal this Canada Day is simple.

"We want to love on Cranbrook by throwing the biggest party for this country that this city has ever seen," Hackett said.

In Kimberley, there will be Canada Day celebrations in the Platzl this afternoon. Celebrations will include live entertainment throughout the afternoon and cake cutting at 3:30 p.m. Organizers ask that you bring a lawn chair as the Kimberley Community Band will require the Platzl chairs for their performance.

Organizers noted the Cranbrook event would not be possible without the support of the community and the generosity of event sponsors. Those include: Spring Honda; Selkirk Signs; Freightliner; Kootenay Landscape; City of Cranbrook; Heritage Canada; the District Community Foundation; The Bedroom Furniture Galleries; the Townsman and Advertiser; B-104 and The Drive; The Painted Crate; Signal Collision; Bridge Interiors; and Aaron's Furniture.
