William Cecil Hume

September 12, 1931 – April 12, 2023
In Loving Memory ~
With great love, we announce the peaceful passing of William C. Hume. Born in Calgary on September 12, 1931, Bill was the first of three children to William and Dorothy Hume. Living in Cranbrook, B.C., he spent his childhood developing a love for the mountains, nature, and a strong work ethic.
At seventeen he moved to the city and began working with NCR, the beginning of a long, successful career which included roles at Philips Electronics and Moore Corp as a salesman and National Sales Manager.
His work took him all over Western Canada including Edmonton where he would meet Elaine, his wife of 53 years. They settled in Toronto where Bill shared his zest for life with family and friends through adventures to Lake Huron, the Magnetewan River and sailing on Lake Ontario.
An avid sportsman, he coached youth hockey and was an active member of the Toronto Cricket, Skating and Curling Club, serving on the board, becoming an elite curler, and coaching newcomers to the sport.
At home, he loved his family, neighbours, gardening, birdwatching, and attending church regularly.
Bill will be remembered for his radiant smile, sense of humour, photography, and the way he included everyone and made them feel at home. He spent his final six months back in his home province of beautiful British Columbia.
He is survived by his wife Elaine, children Kelly (Tim), Carol, Billy (Clarissa) and Michael, four grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and sister Lynne (Keith).
The family will be forever grateful to Bill’s dedicated caregiving team in Toronto and at Heritage Place on Salt Spring Island.
