Walter John Rojek

1920 – 2016

It is with deep sorrow that the family of Walter Rojek announces his passing at the East Kootenay Regional Hospital in Cranbrook on Monday, February 15, 2016 at 95 years of age.

Walter was born on April 2, 1920 in Bobronwniki Male, Poland. He was a World War II Veteran and was a member of the 1st Polish Paratrooper Brigade, 1st Division, 3rd Line, stationed in the UK.  He married Gladys Foster in Wrexham on October 7, 1948.  Walter immigrated to Canada from England in 1952 with Gladys and daughter Jenny where they lived in Blairmore for many years and then moved to Cranbrook in 1964. He successfully owned and operated Walter Rojek Logging Ltd. Walter retired early as he and Gladys enjoyed travelling – especially Las Vegas. Walter will always be remembered for his sense of humour and the stories he loved to tell. His generous spirit and love for all people will be greatly missed by many, especially “his girls”.

Walter is survived by his daughters, Jennifer (Phil) Viel, Diana (Rob) Rymell, Dorothy (Marcel) Cochet, Joan (Maj) Jiwani, Kari (Tom) Cataldo, 9 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, his sister Mary and his brother Roman. Walter was predeceased by his wife Gladys and his brothers Gus, Eugene, Henry and sister Bogusia.

A memorial service for Walter will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Cranbrook on Saturday, February 20, 2016 at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, donations in Walter’s memory can be made to the: Heart & Stroke Foundation of BC & Yukon, Okanagan/Kootenays Area Office, #4, 1551 - Sutherland Avenue, Kelowna, British Columbia, V1Y 9M9.
