On Sunday, December 11th, 2016 a “Celebration of Life” was held for Sherry (Carver) Laurie at the Cranbrook Golf Course. This afternoon with Sherry’s family and friends was full of heart-warming stories and laughter - truly the definition of “Celebration”.

Sherry’s son - Brandon lovingly shared many stories reflecting her larger than life personality, resilience, integrity and sincere work ethic. Sherry’s partner Charlie spoke of the fullness and joy she had brought to his life and her brother Brent sang the meaningful family song “Danny Boy”. It was no secret that Sherry’s greatest pride was her children, sons Brandon and Cameron Laurie and daughter Linda Katz. Through the heartbreaking journey leading to Sherry’s passing, her kids and partner Charlie were resolute to be by her side. Her family left nothing to chance to ensure Sherry knew she was well loved and to make sure her wish to pass away at home was fulfilled. Sherry was a “Lifer” when it came to the world of hairdressing. Not only a “Lifer” because of her some 50 years practicing as a hairdresser, but also by the pleasure she brought to her countless clients in the Cranbrook Senior Community and WalMar/12th Ave Studio. Sherry was wholly dedicated and nurturing to her Seniors - listening to their stories, making them laugh and often adding the finishing touches to go with their fresh hair-do…a little lipstick… a touch of rouge…perfection. Sherry was a fierce competitor when it came to games and the “Master” of many - competitive bowler, shuffleboard player, crib expert. She adored all games and the opportunity they offered for a little bet on the side. It was often during the playing of games that Sherry felt obliged to express her unique terms of endearment to her competitors. Everyone knew that Sherry’s “Salty Language” was surely her way of showing fondness and affection to the recipient. Sherry had instinctive character when it came to the sharing of laughter and fun – she just couldn’t help herself. It would have given Sherry great peace to see the comfort and affection so big heartedly offered to her family during this time. She would want to “Thank You” all. Sherry’s family would like to express their sincere gratitude to all those who generously supported them during this sorrowful time. Food, flowers, messages of sympathy, so many gestures that showed they too loved and will miss Sherry.

Thank you. Thank you.

Sherry C. Laurie
