Rosemary "Irene" Saffin (Plain)

March 12, 2014

After almost 91 years of loving and laughter everyday Irene died peacefully in her apartment at Joseph Creek Village where she had lived happily for the last seven years.

Irene was born in Maple Creek, Saskatchewan and moved to Langley, BC where she completed her schooling. She took her nurses training at Royal Columbian Hospital in New Westminster, BC and then moved to Westlock, Alberta to begin her nursing career and met her soon to be husband Frederick William Saffin. The young couple were married in 1948 and settled in northern Alberta to start a family.

The family moved back to BC in 1955 and settled in the Lower Mainland until moving to Cranbrook in 2001.

Irene is predeceased by loving her husband Fred (December 2004) and 1 daughter Tracy (1967). She leaves behind five sons Bill (Grace) in Nanaimo, Ed (Deb) in Cranbrook, Norman (Linda) in Ladysmith, Brian in Mission and Bruce (Gail) in Pleasanton, Ca, one daughter Judy (Henk) in Ucluelet, 10 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.

Irene’s greatest joy was spending time with her family as well as cooking and knitting or crocheting for them. She leaves behind many friends at Knox Presbyterian Church and in Joseph Creek Village.

There will be a celebration of Irene’s life by the family at a later date.
