Rosa DeRita was surrounded by her family as she passed away peacefully on March 18, 2014, at the age of 83. Rosa was born on April 18, 1930 in Petruro, Italy. She moved to Cranbrook B.C. with her family in 1962. She enjoyed all the good things in life. She was always cooking, spending many hours in her garden, playing bocce on Sunday’s at Jim Smith Lake and spending time with her family and many friends. She will be forever missed by all of us.


Rosa is predeceased by her husband John DeRita. She is survived by her sons, Sabato (Barb) DeRita, Mario (Gwen) DeRita, Jim (Kathy) Derita, Frank (Erin) DeRita, all of Cranbrook and her daughter Filomena (Nuccio) Spitale of Vancouver BC; brothers Francesco (Luisa) DeLauro , Angelo (Maria) DeLauro, all of Italy, and sister Maria (John) DeAngelis of Cranbrook; grandchildren Jalaine (Dale) Lewko and Tracey DeRita of Calgary AB, Maria (Andy) Leisk, Julia and Joey Spitale of Vancouver BC, Lucas and Aiden DeRita, Breanna DeRita, Darnell (Lauren) Rousson, Mitchell, Russell and Xander Rousson, all of Cranbrook, as well as many well as many nieces and nephews in Cranbrook and Italy.


Prayers and Rosary will be held at 7:00 PM on Friday, March 21, 2014 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, March 22, 2014 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Entombment will take place at the Mausoleum, West Lawn Cemetery, Cranbrook BC.


In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation.
