February 23, 1935 - August 21, 2019
It is with immense sadness that on Wednesday August 21st 2019, Robert (Ron) Penner, died on his terms at the age of 84 surrounded by his loved ones. Ron was born on February 23, 1935 in Sudbury, Ontario.
In 1958 he married his wife Janet, spending 61 years together. They raised two sons, Randy and David and one daughter Rhonda.
Ron worked for Trans Canada pipeline in Ontario before taking a new job with Alberta Natural Gas in Sparwood, BC, where he worked for 25 years. He retired in 1994 and has spent the last 30 years in Cranbrook, BC. Ron loved to impart his wisdom to all who would listen. With Ron, every mistake was a lesson, every lesson taught something new, and something new turned into a life skill.
Ron had a passion for the great outdoors. Ron's favorite hobbies were raising llamas and other exotic animals on his hobby farm. He had a knack for hands on work and could fix anything that needed fixing. Airplanes always fascinated him, and he even built his own from scratch. Ron would fly his kids and family to remote lakes to go fishing and vacationing. He absolutely loved fishing, going for his daily coffee with his buddies and horseback riding. Most of all, he loved his family. Ron's sense of humor was a shining light and it never wavered; he remained jovial right until the end.
Ron is survived, and dearly loved by his wife, his two sons and daughter, his six grandchildren Kyle, Bradley, Brandy, Shelby, Terryn and Kylie and his two great grandchildren, Calem and Nora. At Ron's request there will be no funeral service, the family will have a small private gathering.
