Passed away December 13, 2019 at the age of 81 in Langley, BC after a lengthy illness of dementia and cancer. He passed away peacefully with his special buddy Chris by his side.
He was born in Regina, Saskatchewan June 8, 1938 and was raised in Calgary, Alberta. His parents were Wilfred Leader and Angela Smith (nee Moore).
In his earlier years in Alberta he rounded up wild horses and was also in chuckwagon races at the Calgary Stampede. He was also a wrestler known as Mr. X and sparred with Stu Hart. Bob was also an extra in a Marilyn Munroe movie called River of No Return in the Banff area. He played a native riding a horse in the film. Bob met and married Mary Parkyn in 1961.
Later he became an underground miner in the Elk Valley and then instructed after that. After that he worked for Emcon-Mainroads until he retired from there. Bob had many friends and special coffee buddies, he always loved a good joke. He was an avid outdoorsmen who loved hunting and fishing. He also loved gardening and tending to his roses. Bob loved hockey and in his Fernie years he was involved with the Elk Valley Blazers as a trainer and equipment manager. A great hockey stepdad to Rick and grandson Chris. After many years in Fernie Bob and Marion moved to Langley where he worked a short time as a security guard.
Bob is survived by his children Markes Parkyn, April Dettling (Greg), Wendy Leader, Todd Leader, Heather Leader and stepson Rick Graham. His grandchildren Shannon, Jennifer, Zackery, Derrik, and Chris. Great grandchildren Shaylin, Ayden, Kaycee, Brienna, Nadalie and Mackenzie.
He was predeceased by his sister Laura and brother Willam.
Dad, grandpa we will always have cherished memories of you and you always will be missed and loved.
Celebration of life to take place in Fernie BC in late spring, date to be announced at a later time.
