Perry Kenneth Durant

June 22, 1959 – November 21, 2018
It is with deep sorrow that the family of Perry Durant announces his passing on Wednesday, November 21, 2018 at East Kootenay Regional Hospital in Cranbrook at 59 years of age.

Perry was born in LeRoy, SK on June 22, 1959, where his mother grew up and lived in Watson, SK where his dad grew up. They came to settle in Viscount where he went to school and gained his love of sports, pitching baseball and playing goal in minor hockey. Also, at a very young age he acquired his love of music from his parents. He could be seen carrying his guitar with him everywhere. He was very gifted and became an amazing guitarist.

In 1971, dads work would bring them west to Sparwood where they would live, and he would continue his love of sports playing softball and tending net for the Fernie Sabres. Perry graduated from Sparwood Secondary School and immediately began his mechanic apprenticeship at the Sparwood Husky. He lived in Cranbrook for a few years studying and teaching martial arts and becoming a black belt. He started driving truck for Weston’s, relocating him to the West Kootenays where he purchased an acreage and horses. Eventually he would move back to Cranbrook where he would work until he moved to Elkford, where he lived and worked at Greenhills, at a job that he loved with people he loved, which he commonly shared with his family whom he was very close to. Perry was very loved, and we will miss his smile, his quick wit and his great sense of humour and his endearment of everyone’s children “Munchkins”.

Perry is survived by his mother and father Olga and Ken Durant of Cranbrook; his sister Kim Fraser (Brad) of Coalhurst, AB; his sister Crystal Dyck (Jeff ) of Cranbrook; nieces Angie and her son Ty of Olds, AB; Jackie Gedjos (Larry) and their children MiKayla and Colby of Lethbridge, AB; Kyra Dyck of Saskatoon, SK; and Mekaela Dyck of Cranbrook. Perry was predeceased by his grandparents Wilfred and Bertha Muller of LeRoy, SK; and Arnold and Elsie Durant of Watson, SK; and many other relatives.

Perry requested no service. Memorial donations in his honour can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, #202, 105 – 9th Avenue South, Cranbrook, BC, V1C 2M1.
