It is with heartfelt sorrow that the family of Miriam Riddell announces her passing in Cranbrook on Tuesday, May 1, 2018 at 82 years of age.
Mom was born on August 19, 1935 in Penticton. She was an athlete who excelled at sports; with basketball being her favourite. In her early 20's mom married Ron Riddell, who was an RCMP member, in Penticton. While they moved from place to place in BC, she had 3 sons. Once the children were older mom worked for The Bay in Cranbrook, and then Zellers before retiring.
After retiring, mom volunteered doing income tax returns for low income filers. As well, she volunteered at the Canadian Red Cross. For a number of years mom also hosted international students attending the College.€Mom was the consummate hostess. There was always something to eat or drink if you arrived at her door. If needed, a bed followed by breakfast was also offered. A smile and great conversation was always included.
Mom was an avid bridge player. She enjoyed the many friends she made playing both regular games and in tournaments. Mom enjoyed the challenge of achieving the best results with the cards she was dealt as well as the playful banter.
Right up until her passing, mom's mind was sharp and we all enjoyed her great sense of humour. She was the rock of the family and will be dearly missed.
Mom is survived by her sons David, Kirk (Jeab), Stewart (Tracey) and many grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Mom was predeceased by her husband Ron Riddell, father Robert Dennis, mother Violet Dennis, and her sisters and brothers Elaine Smith, Bill Dennis, Reenie Shatto, Ruth Johnsen and Donnie Dennis.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the BC Lung Association, BC Cancer Society or a charity of your choice. Later this summer we will raise a glass and remember mom near the end of July.
