MICHAEL SLOBODIAN

1925 – 2014

We are saddened by the passing of Michael Slobodian on December 21, 2014 at the Pines Care Home in Kimberley at the age of 89.

Michael was born on July 22, 1925 in The Chateau Lake Louise. At a young age he moved from the family homestead, known as Harry’s Hill in Lake Louise, to a farm near Carstairs, Alberta, where he worked for Wilf Carter and Harry Hayes.

In 1947 he began work at Cominco in the mill. His career at Cominco included five years working at Black Angel Mine in Greenland. After 40 years with Cominco he retired as Mill Foreman in Kimberley.

In 1948 Michael married Isabel Bailey, they lived in Chapman Camp and raised four children. Michael is survived by his wife Isabel of 65 years, a daughter, Gayle, sons Calvin and Daryl (Samantha), seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren, his brother John and sister Anne.

He was predeceased by his son Brent in 2012 and his brother Bill in 1997.

Michael was an instructor at the Kimberley Fire Department for 25 years. He was also involved in First Aid, enjoyed curling and family time at Wasa Lake.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Haiduk and all the staff at the Pines for their excellent care.

A Service will be held for Michael on Monday, December 29, 2014 at 1:00 pm at the Centennial Hall, 100 – 4th Avenue, Kimberley. Condolences may be left for the family at www.markmemorial.com.
