It is with deep and heartfelt sorrow that the family of Michael Widmer announces his sudden passing on Tuesday, October 21, 2014 at the age of 57.


Michael was born on August 30, 1957 in Edmonton, Alberta and was raised by his loving parents Betty and Hugo Widmer in Olds, Alberta.


Michael moved to Cranbrook in 1982 and began working at the Townsman newspaper where he met his future wife Kelly. He enjoyed life and people to its fullest. He had a great love for family and a deep passion for sports, especially his Calgary Flames, Stampeders and Kootenay Ice. Michael will be remembered for his wonderful humour and laughter and dedication and enjoyment of his work and clients at Wood Gundy.


Michael was predeceased by his dear parents Hugo and Betty Widmer. He is survived by his loving wife Kelly, daughter Tanis (Collin) Brown, brothers David and Larry (Laura), sister Janice Anderson (Dane), sister and brother in law Candace and Kelly Kazeil and many nieces and nephews.


A Celebration Of Michael’s Life will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, October 25, 2014 at the Cranbrook United Church (2 - 12th Avenue South). In lieu of flowers, Michael’s family requests that donation be made to the: Canadian Cancer Society, 19 - 9th Avenue South, Cranbrook, British Columbia, V1C 2L9.
