It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Michael Peter Bartsoff on October 17, 2022, at the age of 76 after a brief battle with cancer.
Mike was born in Creston, BC to William and Pauline Bartsoff, who soon moved to Cranbrook and then to Kimberley, where Mike grew up. When he was 18, Mike started work with Cominco at the Sullivan Mine, and continued to work there for the next 37 years until they mine closure in 2001. While there, he made many lifelong friends and would eventually meet the love of his life, Connie in 1983.
During the summer months Mike loved fishing and camping in the beautiful nearby mountains, as well as working in the yard at home. And if the weather wasn't co-operating, he would enjoy staying home, watching old westerns, playing computer games and relaxing with his loving dog, Roxie.
Mike enjoyed going travelling with Connie to Vegas and Calgary, visiting and playing cards with the family around the dinner table, though on several occasions he was caught passing cards to the grandkids under the table.
Mike will be deeply missed by his loving wife Connie, his son Michael (Christine) Bartsoff Jr., his daughter Michelle (Mike) Deniger, step-sons Darcy (Kathy) Brown, David (Rosanne) Brown, and Darren (Larynda) Brown, as well as his much-loved grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mike will also be remembered by his sisters Anne Hoffman, Polly Renstrom, sister-in-law Betty Still, brother-in-law Ed (Karen) King, and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Mike was predeceased by his parents, brothers Fred, Bill and Phil, and sister-in-law Judy.
As per Mike's request, there will be no service, but a celebration of life for family and friends will be held for him in the near future. The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff at the East Kootenay Regional Hospital for their compassionate care of Mike in his final days.
