Menadora Benedik

November 27, 1928 - June 8, 2017

Menadora was born on a farm near Lakenheath, SK. Soon aft er, the family moved to a farm near Melaval, SK where Menadora grew up and went to school.

Menadora always wanted to be a teacher. As a child she and

her younger sister played school and Menadora was always the teacher. After graduating from high school, Menadora obtained her teaching certificate at Moose Jaw Normal School. Menadora taught in country schools and villages in Sask. for about 9 years.

She married Ernest Benedik in 1949 and they moved to

Cranbrook, BC in 1958. Menadora taught at Wardner for one

year after which she taught at Central School in Cranbrook.

Menadora continued with her education by attending UBC for several summers and graduated with a Bachelor of Education.

She became Principal of Tenth Avenue School in 1963 being

the only female Principal at the time. She was also Principal of Central School and ended her career as Principal of Steeples School. She retired in 1985 after 35 years of teaching.

Menadora and Ernie liked to travel with their motor home and visited many places in Canada and the USA. They also enjoyed fishing at the local lakes.

Through the years Menadora served on various Boards and Associations. She served as President, Secretary, Treasurer and Historian for the Cranbrook Retired Teachers Association.

She was very artistic and created many beautiful items of

knitting, embroidery, crocheting, scrapbooking and sewing.

She was an avid collector of stamps, coins, and antiques especially glass.

Menadora was predeceased by her husband Ernest, and her

parents, Dan and Alexandra Pauliuc. She is survived by her

sister Stephanie Pauliuc and her brother-in-law Rudy (Irene)

Benedik. She is also survived by nephews Gordon (Carol)

Viher, Rudy (Lucy) Viher, Blair (Deena) Benedik; nieces

Pamela Lennie, Nancy (Morris) Michalishen, Wendy Benedik

and their families.

A special thanks to Dr. David Lenz for his compassionate care for many years and to the Doctors, Nurses, and other staff of East Kootenay Regional Hospital who cared for Menadora.

According to Menadora’s wishes there will be no service.

Cremation provided by McPherson’s Funeral Services.
