In loving memory ~
It is with great sorrow that Martin Ford's family announces his sudden passing at home in Vancouver on December 29, 2021 at the age of 63. Martin was born in England and came to Canada with his parents and siblings when he was 8. He grew up in Cranbrook, BC, graduating from Mt. Baker Sr. Sec. in 1976. After a stint with Cranbrook's then-volunteer ambulance department, Martin moved to Vancouver, joining what eventually became BC Ambulance, first as a paramedic and then as a dispatcher. He was an instructor of paramedic dispatchers at the Justice Institute before moving into BCAS administration, ultimately becoming Systems Administrator with Dispatch Operations. Throughout his long career with BCAS, Martin was dedicated, hard-working and well-liked by his colleagues. He was quiet, with a dry sense of humour and keen sense of fairness. He was much loved by his nieces, nephews and various family dogs and cats. Martin was predeceased by his mother, Lyn, his younger sister, Elizabeth, and sister-in-law, Deanna Ford. He leaves behind his father, Peter, siblings Kathryn and Simon, brother-in-law, Dwight Telke, and nieces and nephews Shawna (Chris Denman), Cassie (John Thomas), Corey (Spice Hart), Nathan Telke, and Aaron Telke. We are sad to lose our son/brother/uncle, and sad that he never reached his goal of retiring to a house by the sea. No service is planned, but family and friends will gather in Cranbrook later this spring to remember him.
Donations can be made in his memory to the BCSPCA or North Shore SAR. Raise a glass and speed Martin on his way.
