October 1, 1921 - November 11, 2021
Lola was born October 1, 1921, living a remarkable 100 years. She might be remembered for living through the Great Depression, leaving school at age 12 to go to work, or raising a daughter while her husband served overseas during WW2. She might be congratulated for living so long and experiencing many changes in the world like delivering messages to the neighbours by horse back or facetiming great grandkids. But Lola's legacy is ultimately in what she taught us all about living.
Lola did not approach life as if it was a journey collecting experiences and meeting goals.
Instead, she lived well, one important minute to the next. She busied her hands when she was idle. She found beauty on a rainy day. She enjoyed the lively banter that emerged from a game of cards at the kitchen table. And mostly, she lived for the company of people. She was not only excited about others, but she was also excited for others. She made each of us to feel as if we mattered to her.
As a life-long Flames fan on the lead up to her 100th birthday, it pained Lola delightfully to spend a whole year associated with number 99 :) She was thrilled to make her 100th birthday and in the process gave the world a model for a long and graceful life. Whether she was offering up another homemade cookie, or simply twinkling her eyes during a good chat through a pandemic-safe exterior window (see picture above), her outlook was unwaveringly "wonder-full."
Most special to her were her husband Pat, her 3 children, her grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, and her younger sister, Pearl. Of equal mention were her many life-long friends whom she spoke of with deep fondness. Lola's second family were the residents and staff at Columbia Aged Care. She treasured how lucky she was to be surrounded by wonderful friends and caregivers.
Lola Alice Heaven was one of a kind and we will miss her. We love you sweet Grammie!
