May 3, 1932 - May 29, 2022
In loving memory ~
Roy was born on May 3, 1932 in Sexsmith Alberta. The family moved in 1938 to Canal Flats where his Dad started the dairy on "the old farm". Roy married his true love Doreen Haynes in 1955 and settled down to raise his family. Over the years he worked for the Forestry up White Swan, had a logging company, a welding company and worked as a Contractor for Crestbrook.
The family moved to Cranbrook in 1977 where he began working as a contractor for RivQuip.
When he retired he began making his trademark horseshoe figurines - Canadian Classic Cowboys. He attended trade shows and craft fairs all over the Columbia Valley, northern and southern Alberta and was featured in the Vancouver Trade Show in 1996. His Cowboys were shipped all over. He was busy filling orders to Japan, The States, Montreal and Whistler to name a few. He had found a market niche that he truly enjoyed working at.
His was dedicated to his family and loved the times they were able to spend together. Whether it was coaching ball or hockey, playing guitars, fishing, camping, having picnics or dinners, his family time was precious. He had a highly developed sense of humour and always tried to look on the positive side of life.
He touched the lives of so many people, if you were his friend, you were his friend for life and he leaves behind many friends of all ages. He believed in treating people the way he would want to be treated. He was a Christian and a true gentleman, always polite, courteous and ready to help anyone who may have been a bit down on their luck.
He was sorry that he didn't have time to say goodbye to some of the people who had meant a lot to him.
He fought a strong battle against cancer for over 4 years. His mind, heart and soul never gave up but over the last few months his body grown weary and he left us May 29 to join his family in Heaven.
He was predeceased by his wife Doreen, his daughter Cindy, his sons Bo and Keith and his son-in-law Paul.
