November 27, 2020
1931-2020 ~ It is with great sadness, the family of Ione Hrisook announces her passing at home in Cranbrook on November 27, 2020 with her sister by her side. She was 89 years old.
Ione was born in a log cabin on a homestead near the small town of North Star, in Northern Alberta, to Minnie and Jack Kennedy. She and her twin sister were delivered by her grandmother, who was a midwife. The family was joined by a sister, Sheila 8 years later.
Ione grew up in Northern Alberta attending schools in Berwyn, and Grimshaw. After high school she strode out on her own, moving to Vancouver, where she met and married Patrick Fleet. They had two sons, John, and Michael.
The family moved to various locations in B.C., as Pat was an Iron Worker. After the marriage ended, Ione and the boys moved to Cranbrook where she worked at different jobs, finally settling at Crestbrook Industries. Ione worked with Crestbook for over 20 years. It was here she met and married Joe Hrisook.
Ione enjoyed putting on big family dinners, when she and Joe had lived in the Gold Creek area. After Joe's passing, Ione moved into town. Ione volunteered at Fort Steele for years. She enjoyed bowling, belonged to a walking group and was a devoted Kootenay Ice fan for 20 years, even donning the blue hair for the playoffs.
Ione with her sister, her dear aunt Lorry and special friend Anne McKay had lots of fun traveling together in Europe and Canada. She will be sadly missed by her friends in her walking group.
Ione was predeceased by husband Joe, son Michael Fleet, granddaughter Dianna Fleet, stepson Ed Hrisook, younger sister Shiela and her parents.
She is survived by son John (Barb), step daughter Joanne (Cal) Green, stepson Ron (Sherri), twin sister Inez Hanna, her loving niece Trish (Doug) in Nanaimo, aunt Lorry, 10 grand children and 23 great grandchildren, and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Interment of Ione's remains will be held at a later date.
