It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother Ingrid Alice Johnson. Ingrid was born in Kimberley, BC on December 9, 1926, we believe up until her passing she was the oldest resident born in Kimberley who lived here continuously for 91 years. She was also the first baby born in the Kimberley hospital when it was first opened.

She met and married her first and only love Harold Dean Johnson on December 24, 1943. Ingrid always said she wanted to be a mother and she was truly the ultimate. She grew up saying she wanted 8 children, 4 boys and 4 girls and oops! 9 soon followed.

Kenneth (Angelina), Larry (Judy), Karin (Derrel), David (Carol), Jack, Elin-Marie (Tony), Gordon, and Julie-Ann (Bruce) Ingrid and Harold collectively have 19 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband Harold (1962) her son Kenneth and daughter-in-law Angelina, son Larry and her only sibling Corrine.

Nanny will be sadly missed; she touched many hearts and was loved by many. She was the glue that held her family together.

What Mom Took

Most often when we think of Mom

We think of what she has given:

The softness of her loving touch,

A gentle guide for living;

A nightly tip-toe in a room,

An understanding look;

But sometimes when I think of Mom

I think of what she took

She took a child and taught it how

To live this life with pride

She took those kindergarten tears,

And kept them all inside.

She took the hands that longed to hold

Her child and not let go

Used them to push her child along

The way, to thrive and grow.

She also took time to do other things

Like sew, and clean and cook,

And never thought to ask for thanks

For all the things she took. Thanks, Mom.

The family thanks everyone for their well wishes. Special thanks to the Cranbrook East Kootenay Regional Hospital Intensive Care Unit - Sally, Tanille, Tyrel, Pam and Julie for your care and compassion.
