It is with deep sorrow that the family of Bernice Sargent announces her passing on Tuesday, February 3, 2015 in Cranbrook at 82 years of age.


Bernice was born on February 16, 1932 in Petrolia, ON and raised there as well. Bernice graduated her nursing studies in 1954 and moved to Hazelton, BC to start her nursing career. There she met Paul, the love of her life. In 1957 they were married and were blessed with three children. Church and music were important parts of both Bernice and Paul’s lives. Bernice played the organ for over 32 years. She played the organ for Sunday Mass as well as at church weddings and funerals where Paul would often sing along and accompany her. Bernice was always active in the community. She loved quilting, hockey and spending time with her children and especially her grandchildren.


Bernice is survived by her husband Paul Sargent, children Roy (Marie) Sargent, David (Cindy) Sargent and Anne (Bill) Swanson, grandchildren Celia, Justin, Paul, Max, Kieren and Teale. Bernice was predeceased by her mother Harriet “Floy” Brander and her father Roy Taylor Brander.


A funeral mass for Bernice will be held on Saturday, February 7, 2015 at 11:00 am at Christ The Servant Catholic Church in Cranbrook. She will be interred in Westlawn Cemetery.
