??Gertrude Siemens

October 7, 1928 - April 1, 2017

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Gertrude Siemens, our beloved and wonderful Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother. Gertrude passed away peacefully in Fernie at the Rocky Mountain Village on April 1st, 2017.

Gertrude was born in Hague Saskatchewan on the 7th of October 1928, the second of seven children to Abram and Maria Neufeld. Gertrude married Herman Siemens in Arabella Sask. in 1948, a few year later they moved to Martensville Sask. where together they operated Avenue A service and raised their 5 children. In 1971 they moved to Cranbrook BC where they jointly operated Woodland Grocery. Following her husbands passing in 1982 Gertrude continued to live and enjoy the Cranbrook/Moyie area for the remainder of her life.

Gertrude was well known in Moyie for the delicious fresh bread and the buns and pies that she often made for fund raising events. She made the best cottage cheese perogies and Easterbread, and many other traditional meals for her family to enjoy. She loved to cook and to see how many she could fit around her table for dinner, the more the merrier.

Gertrude was a very generous woman and gave many hours to the hospital auxiliary, she quick to help when needed. She enjoyed many activities through out her life, quilting, traveling, and square dancing, skiing and snowmobiling to name a few. Mom loved to remember how she could run when she was young, she would run 3/4 mile from Arabella school to home at lunch hour.

Gertrude was predeceased by her parents, her husband Herman Siemens, her brothers Abe and George, sister Mary and son-in-law Harvey Friesen.

Gertrude is survived by her 5 children, Anna Friesen, Bob (Shirley) Siemens, George Siemens, Henry (Geraldine) Siemens, and Donald (Cindy) Siemens as well as 8 Grandchildren, Jason (Haley), Marc (Barb), Kyle (Cassie), Alex (Brooke), Shawna (Derek), Tyler (Joy), Kristen (Barry), Bob and 13 Great Grandchildren.
