Gertrude Arnfinnson

January 16, 1924 – June 13, 2017

Gertie passed away peacefully at “The Pines”

(Kimberley Special Care Home) with her niece

Rochelle by her side on Tuesday, June 13, 2017 at 93

years of age.

Gertie was born in Grandin, AB. She met the love of

her life Dori Arnfi nnson near Lac La Biche, AB, and

they were married in 1941. They moved to Kimberley

in the late 1940’s spent a few years camping, and

then bought a cabin at St. Marys Lake. She loved to

sing, strum the banjo, play the spoons, and in later

years, she was happy just to sit and listen to music.

Quite a few nephews, nieces and friends stayed with

Gertie and Dori in the house on DeWolfe Avenue in

the early years, and have fond memories of that time.

Gertie loved to play bridge, crib and bingo, and even

made the odd trip to the casino. She was also a

lifetime member of the Catholic Women’s League of

Sacred Heart Church in Kimberley.

Gertie was predeceased by her husband Dori,

children Darryl and Barbara, parents Maxime and

Gabrielle Huppie, her sisters Irene Schumacher,

Doreen Bowness and Mildred Gairdner, her brother

Peter, grand daughter-in-law Gina Gauthier and her

great-great-granddaughter Aleiya. She is survived by

her brother Tommy, 3 grandchildren Maxine (Ron)

Jewell, Darryl Gauthier and Barry Gauthier, 9 greatgrandchildren,

and 10 great-great grandchildren,

numerous nephews and nieces, and special niece

Rochelle Wallach.

A service for Gertie will be held in August 2017. In lieu

of flowers donations can be made to the Kimberley

Special Care Home, 386 – 2nd Avenue, Kimberley, BC,

V1A 2Z8.

A very special THANK YOU to the Pines for the

wonderful care they gave Gertie; in her words… It was

“beaver dam good.”
