With sadness we announce the passing of Fraser “Joe” Allen Newton, on August 1, 2021, in Cranbrook, B.C. at the age of 84.
Joe worked at the sawmill in Donald for a few years, he then switched to logging truck driving. He loved this change and spoke of it often.
In the early 70’s, he met his life partner Mary Sutherland, she then moved to Cranbrook, with Joe joining her a short while later, where he tried his hand at numerous businesses; garbage disposal, security, he even delivered papers up and down the valley. Joe loved camping, fishing, Quadding, and Nova Scotia.
He is survived by his sons, James Stanley Newton, Gordon Allen Newton- Nilsen and three stepsons, Charles “Bob” (Linda) Sutherland, Ronald Sutherland, and Donald (Evelyn) Sutherland, numerous grandchildren & great grandchildren, and his first wife Lorna Nilsen.
Joe was predeceased by his life partner Mary Sutherland, his mother Ada Newton, father James Albert Newton and stepson John Sutherland.
A Memorial Service will be held at McPherson Funeral Chapel, Wednesday, August 18, 2021, at 1 pm. Joe will be interred in Nova Scotia at a later date. Arrangements entrusted to McPherson Funeral Services.
