Evylin Marion Weichel (Alaric)

June 2, 1933 – April 9, 2016

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother early Saturday morning, April 9, 2016. After a traumatic brain injury and prolonged battle with a cancer, she died peacefully in her sleep surrounded by loved ones. She is predeceased by two partners, Donald Weichel and John Hanke.

She is survived by 6 children and their spouses: Cheriee Weichel and Randy Rotheisler, Rae and James King, Zoe Weichel and Bruce Hooles, James and Suzanne Weichel, Tim Weichel and Ted Nowicki; as well as 14 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, and countless nephews, nieces and in-laws.

Mom was born in New Westminster to Walter and Isabel Alaric, but spent most of her life in Oliver and always felt it was her home. Evy, as she was known by family and friends, was the youngest, and last surviving member of a family of 17. She was a devout Catholic who loved reading, chocolate, dancing, quilting, playing cards and dice, (especially bridge in her younger years) walks in the woods (provided the rattlers weren’t out) and spending time with family. In addition to caring for her children and husband, Evylin worked many years in SOGH as an LPN where she developed many lifelong friendships.

A memorial mass will be held for her at Christ the King Catholic Church in Oliver on May 14, at 11:00 AM.

Rather than sending flowers, Mom would have liked you to donate to your favourite cancer research or to the BC Brain Injury Association where you can request that your donation be directed to her brain injury support group in Vancouver BC.

Evy was a special person, who thrived in the “tough row she was given to hoe.” Although she will be missed by all, we take comfort in the fact that she is reunited with her Donny, her John, and all her brothers, sisters, friends and family that have gone on before her.
