Denis Norman Donovan was born in Vancouver, BC on September 21, 1925. He lived in Vancouver with his parents (George and Mary) and older brother, Basil, and attended Vancouver College. Following high school, he attended the University of British Columbia, graduating with a degree in Science and Math. Then went on to gain his M.Ed.
Denis taught school in Vancouver where he met his future wife, Iris Lorraine Parton, a fellow teacher. They were married in July 1958. He then taught and was a vice-principal in Penticton, BC before moving his family to California for 9 years while he pursued his PhD at the University of California, Berkeley. The family then moved to Fort Nelson, BC where he taught for 17 years before retiring to Cranbrook, BC.
Denis was an avid golfer, member of Toastmasters, and supporter of the Cranbrook Festival of the Performing Arts. He was the loving partner of Lorraine Donovan for 61 years, and leaves behind his son Michael (Peggy), daughter Fiona, grandsons Brad (Alyssa) and Stephen, grand-daughter Joanne, and five great-grandchildren (Jael, Anna, Emily, Liam and Walter). The family will hold a private memorial at a later date.
