February 25, 1949 - March 17, 2020
It is with great sadness that the family, of Darryll Brian McDonald, announce his passing on March 17th, 2020 at Kelowna General Hospital.
Darryll was born February 25, 1949 at St. Michaels Hospital in Lethbridge, A.B. where he lived for the first sixteen years of his life before his family moved to Wasa in 1965 where his parents built the original Hitchin Post Campground In 1971. Darryll met the love of his life Marie and they went on to get married in 1974 and later had their three beautiful children.
After working at the Canal Flats sawmill for a short time Darryll moved on to drive truck for Dairyland foods (originally Noca Dairy) for twenty three years before changing careers and buying a restaurant. He and wife Marie ran Mr. Mikes Steakhouse, later known as Cody's Grill from 1995-2005. Darryll enjoyed being behind the wheel so much, he started driving bus for Dickens Bus Lines and later on for Traxx Coach Lines where he was able to experience a once in a lifetime trip to Alaska.
In his spare time, Darryll loved hunting, fishing and bowling. Along with coaching youth bowling and minor baseball, watching sports such as hockey, baseball and Nascar, he also enjoyed spending time in his greenhouse and ending the day cuddling with his puppies. He was known as the funny guy and could always put a smile on anyone's face. Darryll will be deeply missed by his friends, family and all who knew him.
Darryll is survived by his wife Marie McDonald, his children Shawn, Misty (Paul), grandchildren Mikayla (age 21), Tynan (age 20), Kaiden (age 17) and Brandi (Phil), grandchildren Rowan (age 9) and Dawson (age 5), brothers Daniel (Jackie) and Wayne (Gail) and many other cousins, nieces and nephews who loved him and laughed with him.
