May 4, 1931 - Dec 22, 2017
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our loving father, Lowell Paulson. Dad was born in Bawlf, Alberta on May 4, 1931, the third child of Lars and Inga Paulson.

When dad was three months of age, the family moved to the Peace River Country in a horse covered wagon, and later made their way to Kimberley where dad attended school and went on to work as a carpenter for his father. Upon leaving home, he joined the air force as an aircraft mechanic and served for three years. He always told us that he joined up to be an aerial photographer and was quite shocked to be told there was no such thing after he graduated boot camp.

He met our mom when he was 25 and soon fell in love and they married on August 3, 1957 and resided in Calgary. Dad took a job as an aircraft mechanic in Montreal in 1960 and lived there for a year and a half until his move to Gander, Newfoundland. It is there that he and mom raised their four children. He worked for Eastern Provincial Airlines as an aircraft mechanic and soon took the job of shop steward for his union. When a job became available as a union organizer for the IAMAW he jumped on it and worked for them until his retirement in 1992.

Upon his retirement, he and mom moved to Kimberley where they enjoyed many happy years, traveling and working on their home. He was a tireless volunteer for the Kimberley Helping Hands Food Bank, acting as the vice-president for many years. He thoroughly enjoyed teaching ESL to adults and housing international students. Dad was always very involved in politics and ran several times as a candidate for the NDP when he lived in Newfoundland and helped with countless campaigns during his retirement in Kimberley. He was given an honorary lifetime membership to the party.

Dad loved life and loved people. He loved spending time with his family and wouldn't hesitate to help someone in need. He had a wonderful disposition and loved to tell stories, many of which became quite embellished as his Alzheimer's progressed. His life became more and more interesting as each day passed. He always had a smile on his face and always rolled with whatever life presented to him.

Dad was an inspiration to us all and we will miss him dearly. He truly was one of a kind. We were so very lucky to have him as ours.

He was predeceased by our mom, his loving wife of 53 years, Arlene Joyce on July 5, 2011, as well as his parents and four siblings.

He leaves behind his four children, Chris Paulson (Susie) of Burnaby, BC; Jim Paulson (Cindy) of Gander, NF; Jennie Frost (Bruce)of Kimberley, BC; and Sandy Paulson of Kimberley, BC; his grandchildren Christopher, Amanda, Danielle, Brad, Michael, Matthew, Todd and Martika along with his many great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews and countless other family and friends.

Everlasting thanks to his wonderful care workers who became his dear friends and the staff at the Kimberley Special Care Home.

A celebration of his life will be held in March; date and location to be determined.
