April 9, 1928 - August 17, 2022
In loving memory ~
Dad was born April 9, 1928 on the family homestead near Fletwode, Saskatchewan, the second of four sons to Leonard and Evelyn. The family moved to Moose Jaw, and after his mother's passing they moved to New Westminster, BC where Dad graduated from high school and then started his working career at the Bank of Nova Scotia.
Dad started his career with Cominco in Trail and remained with Cominco/Teck for the rest of his working life with postings to the HB mine near Salmo, Benson Lake near Port McNeill and Fording River near Elkford.
Dad met our Mom, Audrey (Kellock), on a blind date and they were married May 2, 1953. One of dad's greatest joys was the almost 64 years they spent together; raising their family, making friends wherever they went, playing broomball on the N. Island, then in the East Kootenays: hiking, golfing, curling and traveling the world. He was thrilled to become a Grandpa and then a Great Grandpa.
Dad was predeceased by his wife, Audrey, in 2017, parents Leonard and Evelyn (nee Warner) and brothers Don, Bill and Mel. He is survived by his son Jim (Sharon) and grandsons Kyle and Jeff; son Jeff; daughter Lori and grandson Dan (Tamara) Butler, great granddaughters Eva and Lilly, granddaughters Nicole Butler (Jeff Langin) and Kayla Butler, as well as his close friend Jean McIntyre.
Dad passed away peacefully in Cranbrook Hospital with his daughter Lori at his side. The family thanks Dr. Post, Dr. Minty, nurses Nadia, Danae, Emily and Kristi-Lee from 3rd floor for all of their care.
A service will be held at 1:00pm on October 22, 2022 at McPherson's Funeral Home in Cranbrook, with a live link. Dad will be cremated and placed with Mom at Serenity Gardens at the Cemetery in Cranbrook.
In lieu of flowers, Dad requests donations to Canadian Cancer Society or the Heart and Stroke Foundation of BC and Yukon.
