Cirillo Giuriato, beloved husband of Maria, went into the arms of our Lord peacefully on Sunday, June 15, 2014, at the age of 87, surrounded by his family.

Cirillo was born in Castelgomberto, Italy on March 18, 1927, one of eight children. He came to Canada in 1952 and shortly after met and married Maria, the love of his life for the past 59 years. He worked in the construction and forestry industries throughout his life; including working for Crestbrook, retiring in 1987. Although he was a dedicated worker, his family and friends were the focus of his life. He loved to visit with his friends at the Colombo Lodge and had a passion for sports, including soccer, for which he was goalie for the Cranbrook Rovers in the fifties. He especially loved his grandchildren. He loved watching his grandsons play hockey and watching all of his grandchildren’s activities.

Cirillo is survived by his adoring wife of 59 years, Maria, daughters Silvana (Jon) and Dina. He will be lovingly remembered by his nine grandchildren Candice, Kyle, Morgan, Austin, Jason, Darian, Danika, Ashley and Eric (Krystal). Cirillo is also survived by many brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, and dear friends in both Canada and Italy. He is predeceased by his daughter Eda; as well as his parents, Ida and Guiseppe; as well as his sister Ivana.

Cirillo’s funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Mary’s Catholic Church (39 – 10 Avenue South) on Thursday, June 19, 2014 at 10:30 am. His Interment will follow in Westlawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial tributes in Cirillo’s honour may be made directly to the BC Cancer Foundation, http://bccancerfoundation.com. A special thank you to Dr. Kevin McIver, Dr. Steven Schieman and Dr. Sara Chesney; as well as the wonderful nursing staff at the East Kootenay Regional Hospital.
