Christine Greta Faiers (nee Mark)

January 6, 1938 – September 11, 2018
It is will overwhelming sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Christine Faiers on September 11, 2018. Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, Sister and Aunt. Christine was a lifelong resident of Cranbrook/Lumberton BC.

Christine was born in Cranbrook January 6, 1938 to Peter and Anne Mark. She was the eldest daughter of 5 children.

Our mother met her true love Wally Faiers at Camp 1 in Lumber- ton in the early 1950’s. The two of them found themselves in love and on September 17, 1955 they were married. The following year in 1956 they had their first-born child of 7, Edward Peter Faiers (Ted). The family grew from there over the coming years with Shelly, Tim, Bob, Chris, Brad and Cindy. Our mother spent the first 16 years of her life between Cranbrook and the logging camps of Lumberton, where she attended school and learned her life values and hard work ethic. The work ethic and values she learned would be tested in 1966 when her mother passed away at a very young age. Being the eldest in the family at that time she was tasked with helping her father, brothers and sisters to cope with their loss, and eventually took her youngest Sister Gail to come and live with her. In 1975 she would be challenged yet again as her husband and our father would be diagnosed with a life threating form of cancer and passed away in February 1976. Mom was left to raise her 7 children all on her own.

As we reflect back, our family could not imagine what a task our mother had faced when having the full responsibility of parenting a large family.

Our mother persevered, her instinct took over and her hard-working ethics and values helped to propel her family forward.

Family was the most important thing to our mother. She was extremely proud of the accomplishments of her children and grandchildren. There wasn’t a Christmas that went by that did not include her with all of her children and grandchildren.

On her frequent trips to Bingo she would often go early to enjoy the socializing with her friends and many of her conversations included various family members. Her best friend Sharon was always there to look after Mom and walk her to her car after a night of Bingo.

Mom had a soft heart and was willing to help anybody regardless of whom they were, or the situation they may have found themselves in. She didn’t miss a Remembrance Day ceremony, and genuinely honored those who fought for our Country. She later stood proud by her Son in law Wayne who served for 25 years. She taught us to always look out and care for the underdog, the people who were down on life and needed a helping hand. This was our Mom, the biggest most caring heart in the world. She always drove her Grandkids to school and back, cooked them special French toast and homemade syrup in the morning. Her specialty was homemade buns and scones, when the other kids in the neighborhood knew Mom was making scones they were there to have their fill. She always took time to visit with her Sister in law Ursula especially after the loss of her Brother Pete. She cared for her Niece Michelle during her brain tumor after her Brother Carl lost his wife suddenly. This was Mom, she was the care taker of all, and she did this with no expectations.

She enjoyed the simple things of life such as huckleberry picking, camping trips, cooking at hunting camp, hockey games and a good glass of beer.

Later in life she enjoyed her weekly bingo sessions and time at the casino. She also enjoyed travelling to Las Vegas and Miami with her partner Tyrone. She loved to laugh and joke and give her grandkids a big hug. She had many nick names, Gran, Grannie, Chrissy and Bambi and no matter what name was presented she took them all with a big smile.

Mom had a great love for her youngest sister Gail and right up until her passing they would frequently visit.

Mom is predeceased by her husband Wally, parents Peter and Anne Mark, her brothers Carl and Peter, sister Sharon and partner Tyrone Bradshaw.

Surviving are her children, Ted (Maryanne), Shelly, Tim (Astrid), Bob (Terry), Chris (Gwen), Brad (Christine), Cindy (Wayne). Grand children: Jesse (Jessica), Justin (Jayme), Samantha (Warren), Tamara (Dan), Robin (Michelle), Aaron (Riley), Stephanie (Kevin), Travis, Michael (Michelle) and Teagan. Great Grandchildren: Dustin, Joshua, Wyatt, Carter, Emma, Lexi, Lacy, Sierra, Tiffany, Aurora, Autumn, Aubree, Eva, Lillian. Her Sisters Gail (Bunker), Lillian (Merv), and many nephews, nieces and extended family.

This was one of Moms favorite poems, kept by her bedside. “A Family lives together in a home where love can grow. Joining hands and hearts as one, to fill with loves glow. Trying hard to understand that each one has to be, allowed to follow their own dream and find their destiny. A family lives together sharing when the need is there, offering a helping hand to show how much they care. To love and be loved is the greatest joy on earth.”

A celebration of life will be announced at a later date. Rest In Peace our beautiful Mother.
