March 30, 1947 - February 15, 2022
Carol was born in Sonningdale, SK to Edward and Anne Hout. After a long battle with cancer, she peacefully passed in Chilliwack, BC with family by her side. Those waiting with open arms in heaven are her parents and sister Betty-Lu Keefer.
Growing up on the family farm in Saskatchewan, Carol enjoyed helping her dad, playing cards with her mom and sister, and looking after her beloved Shetland pony, Zeke. When she was 19, while living in Saskatoon attending Secretarial School, she met the love of her life, August Cherneski. Despite whose version you believed as to why she paid for the movie tickets on their first date, they quickly fell in love and married in October, 1966.
A few years later, after moving to Cranbrook, BC, Carol dedicated herself to making a home for Gus and her treasured children, Larynda and Trevor, where everyone was always welcome. Bowling leagues, camping and road trips led to life-long friendships made there.
In 1990, Gus and Carol moved to the Fraser Valley, where she started a 16-year career at the 272nd branch of Aldergrove Credit Union. There she quickly earned the reputation of "Dessert Goddess" for her extravagant, delicious desserts she would bring for her co-workers.
After retirement, during the spring and summer months, Carol could often be found searching the local garden centers for the perfect plants for her beautiful garden, or sitting outside visiting with friends. She enjoyed going with Gus when he had out of town work, especially if they could take the Harley. And during the cooler months, Gus and Carol loved travelling to warmer locales like Puerto Vallarta.
Carol was an avid reader, and especially enjoyed horror/suspense novels and movies. Those, and her favourite cooking shows were things she loved sharing with her children and grandchildren. Her favourite times were spent at Christmas and Sunday family dinners, sharing good food with family, and lovingly poking fun at Papa Gus.

Carol was a loved and cherished lady. Those left missing her include her loving husband Gus, daughter Larynda Brown (Darren), son Trevor Cherneski, grandchildren Colby Brown (Kathleen Dalrymple) and Shaelynn Brown, in-laws Norville Keefer, Bob and Cecille Tropeau, and many cousins, nieces, nephews and family. As well, she will be missed by many friends and neighbours, including life-long friends Luc and Judy Goyer, Pat Buehler, Monica and Lionel Baker, Tara Dahl and Len Yacyshyn, Lana and Jaydee Bateman, and anyone that had the pleasure of knowing her.
Mom requested no service but a celebration of life for family and friends once the weather warms and the flowers blossom. In lieu of flowers, donations could be made to the BC Cancer Foundation in her memory.
We would like to thank Dr. Alison Henry, and the nurses, doctors and staff at the Cascade Hospice for their exceptional care for Carol in her final days.
