Carmela Rossi passed away peacefully surrounded by her family, after a courageous battle with health complications due to end stage liver and kidney failure, on Friday, April 11, 2014 in Cranbrook at 74 years of age.


Carmela was born on August 30, 1939 in Bovalino, Marina, Italy and was a devoted, loving and nurturing mother and wife. She was hardworking and strong, taking pride in her work and working endlessly to provide for and ensure the success of her family. Carmela was an excellent cook - most famed for her meatballs and sauce at the Columbo Lodge. She was always selfless, kind hearted and generous in the service of others, and eager to lend a helping hand and a warm embrace with her beautiful smile. Carmela had a great sense of humour and was always laughing and playing, especially with her beautiful grandchildren. She will always be remembered and deeply missed by her loving family and friends.


Mom is survived by her husband Antonio; her four daughters: Josephine McLauchlin (Darrell), Silvana Rossi-Lindsay (Tim), Toni-Lynn Card (Lee) and Jennifer Rossi (Michael Thomson), her grandchildren: Sidnee, Anthony, Maygan, Ross, Sofia, Ashlyn, Elise and Isabel. Carmela was predeceased by: her parents: Vincenzo Novella and Carmela Zappia; her sister Nunzia Moreschini; and her brothers Giovanni, Francesco, Domenico and Bruno Novella.


Prayer’s for Carmela will be held on Tuesday, April 15, 7:00 pm at McPherson Funeral Home in Cranbrook. Her Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, April 16 at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church in Cranbrook at 1:30 pm. A reception in honour of Carmela will follow in the hall at Christ The Servant Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, it was Carmela’s wish to have memorial donations to be made to the: Canadian Diabetes Association, PO Box 12013, Stn BRM B, Toronto, Ontario, M7Y 2L3 or the: Canadian Liver Foundation, BC/Yukon Regional Chapter, 109, 828 - West 8th Avenue, Vancouver, British Columbia, V5Z 1E2 in her honour.
