In Loving Memory ~
It is with great sadness that family of Barrie Alister Mackay announces his passing on June 27, 2022 at the age of 76 years. Barrie was born to Irene and John MacKay in Kimberley BC on January 20, 1946. He was the second eldest of the four children. Barrie had a passion for hockey and his goaltending career spanned 14 seasons, including 4 seasons with the Cranbrook Royals and playing on the Kimberley Dynamiters 1978 Championship Allan Cup team. He was also invited to the first ever Vancouver Canucks Training camp. After he hung up his pads, Barrie worked for Cominco before buying his first loader in 1986 and starting MacKay Contracting.
Barrie married the love of his life Annette and the two welcomed their only child Rob MacKay in 1977. They owned many businesses over the years including the Station Restaurant, numerous stores in Kimberley's Platzl and eventual MacKay Contracting. Beside heavy equipment, Barrie also had a love for trains. Barrie and Annette enjoyed many trips to Vegas and numerous adventures in the many Corvette's he owned over the years.
Barrie is survived by his son Rob (Sharla) MacKay, brother Ronald (Delores), brother Brian, sister Carol Ann (Walter), numerous nieces, nephews, relatives, friends including the extended Dynamiter and MacKay Contracting family.
Barrie was predeceased by his wife Annette in 2010.
A Celebration of Life was held on Saturday July 9, 2022.
