Barbara Francis Parsons “Barbie”
1925 – 2017
It is with great sorrow that the family of Barbara Parsons
announce her passing on Friday, August 18, 2017 at 92
years of age.
Barb was born on April 3, 1925 in Lambeth, Kennington,
England. She was a feisty young lady and decided to
join the RCAF in 1941 at the age of 15, putting false
information on her enlistment papers, her birth year
as 1922, and became an aircraft woman driving large
trucks and later a personal driver for a General. While
serving, she met RCAF Corporal Doug Parsons. They
married in 1944. In 1945 Barbara came to Canada as
s young war bride on the Queen Mary, settling on Salt
Spring Island and trying her hand as a farmer’s wife.
She divorced in the late 1960’s and moved to
Vancouver doing various jobs and later earned her Real
Estate License.
Barb loved to travel and combined it with her love of her
family back home and made yearly visits to see them.
Due to health reasons, her last visit was for her 80th
birthday party.
Barb moved to Cranbrook in 1998 and was an active
member with the Alliance Church and the Salvation
Army.
Barb is survived by her son Richard Parsons (Paula Bedford), granddaughters Stacey Parsons, Kelly (Sean) Daniels and Lynn (nee Blomly) Drader; her son Jason (Olivia) Blomly, four great grandchildren Mason and Callie Drader and Declan and Soraya Blomly; and her sister Pearl Ford. Barb was predeceased by two brothers Geoffry and Jack and two sisters Connie and Daphne.
A memorial service for Barb will be held in England at
a later date.
Thank you to the Joseph Creek Care Home Staff for the
wonderful care Barb received while in your care.
Arrangements entrusted to McPherson Funeral Service.
