Allan James Merrick

June 27, 1959 to July 1, 2021

With broken hearts we announce the sudden death of our son and brother Allan James Merrick. Al was born in Fernie, BC on June 27, 1959 and passed away July 1 2021. He grew up in Cranbrook, BC, did his post-secondary schooling in Calgary AB, and has lived in Kelowna for over twenty years.

Al is survived by his parents, Doug and Bernadine Merrick, and his sister Deanna Rainey and brother in law Dave, and nephew Sheldon. He is also survived by his Uncle, Brian Merrick and the many cousins he was close to. He was predeceased by his maternal grandparents Cecilia, Jim and Lambert, and his paternal grandparents Jack and Lydia Merrick. He was also predeceased by his Uncles Ken, Walter, John and Aunt Pat.

His generosity was legendary - there was nothing he would not do for his family and friends. His loyalty to his family was unending. He loved playing golf around the Okanagan and BC and he got much pleasure in beating those who took him on...which happened quite frequently. He was far from an armchair athlete; he preferred to participate in those sports such as golf, hockey, diving and basketball. He was one of those guys who, whatever sports shoes he slapped on his feet, he excelled at that sport. He loved to travel, spending long periods of time in Australia and France.

Al spent much of his career in the golf industry, overseeing pro shops and other managerial duties. Prior to moving to Kelowna, he won the City of Calgary Golf Championship. His extensive computer knowledge enabled him to customize spread sheets for tournaments and other golf operations. Al spent hundreds of hours helping friends with computer issues, usually at no or very little charge. His family alone kept him busy with their computer-related challenges.

From helping with his aging parents' health issues to offering a helping hand, Al was in the center of a small but loving group including his parents, sister, brother in law, family and friends.

A service and graveside burial will commence at 1:00 p.m. July 14 at Everden Rust Funeral Services at 1910 Windsor Road followed by burial at Kelowna Cemetery.
