Alfred Heinz Nimmert passed away at Joseph Creek Care Village on Tuesday, December 27th, 2016 at the age of 88 with family at his side.

Alfred was born in Berlin, Germany on November 15, 1928, to Karl and Louise Nimmert. He lived in Germany until he immigrated to Canada in 1951. His first job was working on a farm near Drumheller, Alberta to help pay off his passage to Canada. On November 21, 1951, he married Ingetraut Kruschke in Medicine Hat, Alberta. His first job after marriage was at the Cross Ranch near Nanton, Alberta. After several years, they rented a farm near Onoway, Alberta. From there he worked on farms in Fort Saskatchewan, Alcomdale, and a ranch near Fort Steele, BC. He began a career with the CPR in 1966 and retired from there after 27 years of service.

He will be sadly missed by his wife of 65 years Inge; his immediate family Gisela Ecklund, Karl and Katharine Nimmert, Edith and Werner Epp and Doug Schulties. He will also be missed by 12 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his children Heidi and John Oostenbrink and Carola Schulties.

A memorial service will be held at Knox Presbyterian Church in Cranbrook on Saturday, January 14th, 2017, at 1:30 pm with a luncheon to follow.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Alfred's honour, to Dutch Harbour Christian Camp, c/o Knox Presbyterian Church, 2100 – 3rd Street South, Cranbrook, V1C 1G2.
