Cranbrook will be returning to stage one watering restrictions, following a summer of diligent conservation efforts.
The city will be returning to stage one at midnight on Sept. 11, which allows residents to water up to three times per week for a maximum of two hours at a time, either in the morning or evening, both not both.
Even numbered properties may water Monday, Thursday and Saturday, and odd numbered properties may water Tuesday, Friday and Sunday between 5 and 10 a.m. or 8 and 11 p.m. Watering is still not allowed on Wednesday.
Deputy director of Public Works Jason Perrault said the public has played a key role in helping restore water levels in Phillips Reservoir.
“The conscious efforts of everyone in Cranbrook to help us conserve water has had such a positive impact on our water levels in Phillips Reservoir, and our overall water supply for the City," he said. “Today, our reservoir is full and our creeks that feed our reservoir have stabilized. Along with the province reducing our creek flow rating and more rain in the forecast this week, we felt it was time that we could return to Stage one watering restrictions.”
The city enforced stage three restrictions from August 2023 until January 2024, and dropped down to stage two when water levels improved so residents and public works staff could take advantage of a cold snap and build outdoor rinks. Stage two restrictions remained in place until September due to poor winter snow conditions, which put pressure on the amount of available water.
