Three in serious condition after crash near Skookumchuk

RCMP said Monday it appears a northbound vehicle crossed the centre line and collided head on with a southbound vehicle.

Three people are in serious condition after a two vehicle crash on Highway 93/95 near Skookumchuck on Sunday, June 9.

RCMP said in a press release Monday that it appears a northbound vehicle with a lone female occupant crossed the centre line and collided head on with a southbound vehicle with two occupants.

A Kimberley RCMP officer traveling through the area came across the crash and requested BC Ambulance. Initially all three occupants were trapped in the vehicles. Once removed they were transported to East Kootenay Regional Hospital; they were then transferred to Calgary.

A collision analyst attended the scene and conducted an examination. Police believe alcohol is a factor and are currently gathering further evidence.

The highway was blocked for approximately two hours but there was an old road nearby which allowed some vehicles to proceed.
